Friday Night Hair GLS19

Friday Night Hair has not disappointed me yet with their very well made synthetic wigs.  I taped this review I believe the same day I talked about Migraines so please do not mind the sunken eye look.  The wig is very cute while I am still favoring GLS09 and GLS14, I do think this wig is a cutie. :-)

Protecting Pressed Hair from...THE SHOWER!!!

Are you afraid to have your hair snatch back in the shower after being pressed out so silky and fine?  This is not the only way, but it's the way that works for me and I figured I would share it.

The Toni Childs (Girlfriends) wrap I was talking about, was like a spa wrap that she had around her head.  It's pictured here:

Aquasentials Spa Headband (2pk)
I found this on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Aquasentials-Aquabella-Spa-Headband-2pk/dp/B0051AN9VG

If you wish to use this instead of the folded scarf, that is a great alternative also.  Check out the video detailing how to pretect that beautiful head of hair of yours for as long as possible.

Steps

Wrap hair with silk scarf
Tuck flap under ponytail for full protection
Place Shower cap on head
Fold Scarf to wrap around head
Wrap & Tie

**Just a shower cap will let in condensation and steam which can be just as bad for having your hair draw back.  Your edges will need some help.

Speaking of:  You guys have asked what was the pressing comb type thing used on my edges in the Steam-A-Thon video and that is called an Edge Stick.  I did an Amazon Search and listed the link here for the different Edge Sticks and prices:

Kimbella Comparison: Love & Hip Hop Hair

I had no idea and I am typically pretty good at drawing comparisons.  It took comments for people to connect the dots on the Kimbella comparisons.  If you ladies are looking for hair that is Love & Hip Hop inspired you can try this.  AT A DIFFERENT PRICE POINT OF COURSE!

WAIT! What about my WEIGHT?!?!

Typically when someone asks you how much you weigh...OH THEM FIGHTING WORDS!. LOL However, there is no shame in my game in terms of answering questions from my viewers.

Q: How Tall Are You?
A: 5 Foot 7

Q: How Much Do You Weigh?
A: Currently: 147

I have gotten as small as 140 and my friend was like - Err, don't you lose no more weight. LOL. I believe a good look for me and to keep my curves is around 143/145 so I have a little work to do from the holiday weight.

Q: What was the lightest you were at your most fit?
A: 125

Q: What was the heaviest you were at your least fit?
A? 161 <--WHOA

I am not a Perfect Patty shining her Pearly Whites at you and always seemingly the happy little string bean hoping around and telling you eating right and exercising is easy.  These are my thoughts on people like that:

I am just kidding! Unclutch the pearls.

It's really hard to refrain from the things you love.  I don't.  I just eat them in moderation and I find fun and healthy ways to get fit.  I am currently doing the following:

  • Walking Around The Neighborhood (iPod on)
  • Elliptical Machine (45 minutes)
  • Biggest Loser for Wii
  • Dance Central with Son
  • Beyonce "Move Ya Body"
My husband has started Insanity, and I am just not there yet.  I am just in the eating better stage in addition to the above.  If the pounds don't come off that way (they will) - I will get INSANE! haha.

Here are the other items I use that assist me with weight maintenance and loss:

Iphone Apps

  • MyFitnessPal:

  • Fooducate

ONLINE:
50millionpounds.com

I use this website as a great tool to send me weekly grocery lists and recipes

Shoe-A-Cide

You Guys know that I love shoes!  I love all types of shoes from Sneakers to boots, to heels.  I will probably take the time every now and again in this blog to discuss some of the shoes that I have in my collection and where I purchased them from.

THE GIANMARCO LORENZI

I recieved this from BestRemyWigs.com and have to say that I loved the packaging and I am in LOVE with the shoe.

Steve Maddon Multi - I bought this from SHI (this is a spin off store from Journeys)

There are SASHA's that I got from SHI also

These were my Sister's shoes that she wore for prom. I shamelessly jacked them and added them to my collection.  I don't know where she bought them, but felt it was best that I have custody of them kids! LOL She gets visitation and she can take them out every now and again!

Black/African American Hair Growth Secrets 18 inches in 18 months

Well look at you coming over to visit me in blog land!  Welcome!  It’s either the video that brought you here or you ended up here and have not seen the video (no worries, I will post it below).  As promised, we are going to get and keep out sexy on for 2012 and I am open to sharing all that I know and do with you.

Q: What is CoWash?
A: Conditioner Wash.  This is when you do not use shampoo, but you wash your hair with conditioner.

Q: How often do you CoWash your hair?
A: When it is down and I’m wearing it out, every 10 days.  If I end up braiding it up to wear protective styles, I condition before hand and will be braided for about a month and a half or two months and so will keep my hair oiled and condition upon take down.

Q: Whoa Philly wait, you stay braided for about a month and a half or two months?!?!
A: Yep! I make sure that my scalp stays properly oiled using either DooGro stimulating growth oil or One and Only Moroccan oil.

Q: Philly, did you use heat on your head during those 18 months?
A: No.  Everything was air dry and natural styles – no heat AT ALL.

Q: Philly, can you use heat? Why didn’t you?
A: You can use heat, I would advise sparingly and that you know what you’re doing.  I did not use heat because when I wore Sew Ins and left hair out, the heat stripped my hair and caused damage.  The heat damage cannot be repaired, it can only grow out and be cut off. (THAT SUCKS WHEN IT’s IN THE FRONT!)

Q: Where can you get that big bottle of Mixed Chicks?
A: MixedChicks.net

Q: What’s the name of the oil and where can you get it?
A: One and Only Moroccan Oil.  I get mine from Sallys.

Q: Do I have to be Natural to grow hair?
A: No, you don’t have to. If you are getting relaxers, just be sure your beautician is properly timing your relaxers and not over processing. Once your hair is over processed…game over – thanks for playing.

As you follow along through the blog, I will continuously post a little of everything that hopefully you will find helpful. J  Please be encouraged and I know that the Natural Hair transition is a big and sometimes scary step.  My hair gave me the BIZNASS! (business).  It is really thick and I have snapped quite a few combs and brushes as a result.  Just to brush my natural hair back in a bun takes me 30 minutes to get it nice and smooth with no humps or bumps.  The thickness also has made me snap quite a few hair ties because I am stretching them trying to get all my hair in the tie! OMG – ANNOYING.

I love to take a Sunday where I relax and watch a ton of movies while I give my hair some TLC.  I will take a protein packet and put that in my hair with the conditioning cap.  After the protein packet, I will put in the deep conditioner and put the conditioning cap on my head.  I have walked around for hours and even taken a nap while my hair is conditioning.  Once I wash it out, I ensure that I am properly oiled and will braid my own hair. (ENTER MS. CELIE BRAIDS)  **Sings – Sistah, you been on my mind. Sistah – we’re two of a kind…Sistah, I’m keeping my eye on youuuuuuu – SO SHAKE YA SHIMMY!**

Okay, I’m back! Lol

As stated in the video, eating and drinking water I believe is key too.  When I exercise my hair is braided up and under a cap.

ONE LAST THING! – Steam really works in keeping you conditioned and keeping dandruff down.  I don’t know about you but when I work out really well or sweat my head itches like crazy!  Be careful not to tear up your scalp by dragging your nails over it or using a rat tail comb to scratch.  You can damage the scalp and cause some excessive shedding.

Well, that’s all for now –

This is Ya Girl, PhillyzJam and much more helpful than Siri! – Yeah, Apple – I said it!

Jeepers Creepers...You Don't Want My Peepers!

photo.JPG

That picture above is hilarious.  My son would call that, "Big Boogaly Eyes"...Boogaly...what a funny word...(taking a moment to myself to laugh...)

Wait for it...
Wait for it...

Okay done!...No Wait....
Now I'm done!

People always talk about the things that they do not like about themselves and we all have them.  I wish my peepers (eyes) did not droop the way that they do.  There are days I can do some things and they are not as puffy and baggy and bad, but because of year round sinus problems and a yearly sinus infection, the constant inflammation just does not serve my eyes well!
photo.JPG

Okay Tink! Can you give me magical eyes???...Ones with no bags???
I didn't think so.  She can't help.  Well, I have eye patches that work pretty well from Ulta.

RX Hydrglu/Eye Recovery Patch
I use this in conjunction with my eye mask that I got from the spa and my gel and it does me okay.  I just know on days I am really tired it will show.  If you have these same issues, try these and see how they work for you.  I like them.

Jam's Healthy Eating & Habits

I get questions on how I go about my health and fitness. I wanted to post a couple of pictures on some of the things I fix for myself throughout the day. I make sure that my meals are attractive to the eye and packed with taste.  It is also important for me to balance my cravings and wants by allowing myself to indulge in the things I’d like with extra caution to portion.  Check out some of the camera pics I took.

Left: Bananas & Strawberries
Right: Spring Mix Salad, Cucumbers topped with Light Robusto Italian Dressing
Lemons, Strawberries, and Clementines

Spring Mix/carrots, clementines, pineapple, stawberry, grapes

I drink about 66 oz of water a day when I'm really on it.
On a day where we indulged but managed portions (weekend)
Lamb Chops, Garlic Bread, Asparagus, Garlic Mashed Potatoes and a glass of Moscato (But peep the water)
After this dinner the family went for a walk.  We ate early like 7:30pm and ensured we were active afterwards.  After the walk we played Michael Jackson Experience
Ice Cream is a major weakness for me and I go through cycles where I have major sweet tooth.  To satisfy these things I will sometimes have a nice bowl of Strawberries with Fruit Chocolate (healthy dark chocolate and this is by the fruit in the grocery store). If I want to go crazy I will have a dab of Redi Whip (low fat-Light)
If I am not having that, I will eat some cereal that is sweet but has fiber.  I like Multi-Grain Cheerios or Vanilla Almond Special K.
That's All For Now!  It's Ya Girl, Philly!

My Go To Blondes

It's Ya Girl Philly and I have been asked what are some of my Go To Blondes. I have done a video that has yet to be posted in September or October and have yet to post it. (I will post soon). I have learned that I love blondes that have a nice mix with wheat and browns.  I think the warmer the blonde the better! Here are some shades that I have run across and loved!

  1. 2216
  2. 2217
  3. R27/24/4
  4. 27/30
  5. 27 Mix
  6. N30
  7. DX3147

A 1010 color can be sometimey and a bit to GOLDISH at times.  I like the dirtiness of the hair.

Here is a list of Top the Top 10 Go To Blonde Units (These are in no particular order):

  1. Sassy Secrets Jayla
  2. Platinum Wigs Water Wave (Not pictured, video posted)
  3. Platinum Wigs BStyle with Bangs
  4. Vixen Lace Wigs Milani
  5. Platinum Wigs Rosa
  6. Hair Sense Tyra
  7. Feel Free Filly
  8. Motown Tress Acer
  9. Vivica Fox Dakota
  10. Vivica Fox Britney

Special Mention: Janet Collection Selina

DO YOU GUYS REMEMBER TAMIKA?  MY FIRST TIME WITH AN ADVENTUROUS BLONDE! AHHH...YOU WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR FIRST! LOL

MissWigs.com "Miss J" Superwave Care

It's Ya Girl Philly!  I get a ton of questions about Miss J and how they hold up for me.  I would have to say that these units are among the best synthetic units I've had.  I love the Miss J's so much that I have about 4 or 5 of them.  I am asked these burning questions:

Q: What do you do to maintain Miss J?

A: I do not wear Miss J day in and day out, I am sure to rotate my units so I can get longer lifespan and better quality out of it.  I only spray it down with Next Image Avocado wig control spray.  After I have worn it for the day, I check the nape for minor matting (all wigs will tangle at the nape).  I use a loop brush and my detanlging spray to relieve any tangles or matting and then will smooth out the wig and return it in the net and packaging.  I found keeping the wig in the net really assists with maintaining any possible strays and flyaways.

Q: Is yours frizzy and hard?

A: As explained above the net helps with the frizziness. It's not hard because I do not overdo it with product.  I have learned with wigs that less is more and the more product you put in a unit the more of a disservice you will do for it.

Q: Can you put water on it?
A: Yes, I sprayed my black (1) unit down with water in the wet and wavy look video.  Just be sure to shake and separate.

Q: Can you achieve a wet and wavy look?

A:  Yes, I have displayed it in the video (I will post below) I used a water bottle and Mixed Chicks.  Mixed Chicks allows for less build up.

Q: Has your Miss J tangled?

A: No. The mixture of rotating wigs, maintaining wigs, and ensuring they are brushed out and maintained after every wear has done my wigs very well.  As I wash them, I may use Carol's Daughter Shampoo because of it's moisturizing component.  I am finding more and more that Co-Washing wigs with just conditioner really helps maintain optimal moisture and doesn't do as much stripping.

Q: How many Miss J's do you have and what colors?
A: 5 - 1b (short 3 inch), 4/30 (long regular), T4/30 (Short 3 Inch), T2/B30 (short 3 inch), 4/30 (long 3inch)

Glamour Lash Studio: Xtreme Lash Experience

A lot of you have been really apprehensive and probably sticker shocked at the price of Xtreme Lashes.  I encourage you to do your research because I most certainly have and it took me 2 years to finally pull the trigger and get my lashes done.  I have been exceedingly happy at the results and I will tell you that I am a more confident person with having these lashes.  This isn’t to say I was not confident, I am just that much more confident.  I have been wearing sweats and no makeup with my infamous beanie with a brim and while I was usually self conscious about my relaxed look, with a clean brow and poppin’ lashes, I have no worries.  When I went to the orthodontist, I laid back in the chair so she could tighten my bands and my technician took a look at my lashes and was totally CRUNK!  She would not even begin work until I went out to the car and brought her back Roxanne’s card.  If you can imagine, lying back in the chair this lady had a very close look at my lashes and she was amazed at how realistic they looked.  I allowed her to touch them and experience them up close…SOLD!!!

Roxanne’s establishment is extremely clean, relaxing, posh and just an all around fab experience.  If interested, give her a call and she will be more than happy to consult with you and answer your burning questions about the Xtreme Lash Experience and what she has to offer through Glamour Lash Studio.  With that being said, It's Ya Girl, Philly!

RPGShow will SKYPE WITH YOU

A lot of you have reservations about RPGShow and I will say that the company has been great to me in delivering quality units.  The Unit I first fell in love with was my ELS131!  It looked so freaking realistic and so close to my natural hair.  It was OFFICIAL....LIKE A REFEREE'S WHISTLE!  I had to even bring my husband in on the video.

A new idea they are offering is the ability to SKYPE with you and show you the unit that you would be looking to get.  You have an opportunity to see the face of the person offering you the service as well as see the unit you would potentially buying.  This should offer you a little more comfort towards your purchasing experience.

I think that is an awesome idea! GO RPGSHOW!

Be sure to check out the introduction of their celebrity line as well as other really great units.  I love RPGShow because the hair is great and the knots are really small.  Here are some videos on the recent Celebrity Wigs I have done.  I have a Kelly Rowland coming up soon.

Style Closet – Racks on Racks on WRECK!!!

Soooo…

My closets are ridiculously overstuffed with clothes that I keep hung up year round.  That is a bit of a mistake since there are the really cool vacuum clothing bags that you can suck the extra room out of and make them extra flat for storage.  I have a serious problem with things disappearing and all of a sudden I feel like I need it. TOO MUCH DRAMA!

The problem with that is as you are on the go with a busy schedule, things in your closet begin to look crazy and if you don’t check it you get…RACKS ON RACKS ON WRECK!  It’s so ugly and you can never find anything.  Your closet is a black hole and when it can’t take hiding all of your stuff it …THROWS UP!

HOLLA IF YA HEAR ME! ***

My closet preference is to have my jeans in order and all together and have them range in color progression from dark to light.  I like to keep my corporate and business clothes together as well as my casual and club attire grouped together.  I don’t do wire hangers.

NO MORE WIRE HANGERS!! EVER!!!! ---lol sorry.
If I can digress a little for a moment and share with you, I use to take pictures of my closet so that when I shopped I could have an understanding of what I have and what I see that would coordinate well with it.  After a while, I didn’t need pictures anymore because my photographic memory of everything I owned was on point!  If you are anything like me you have things hung up or in drawers that you haven’t worn or seen in months.  Additionally, you have bought things on impulse with tags on it and ask yourself why in heck did you do it!? Lastly, you have new items with tags on it that you’re either waiting for that perfect event or that last piece of whatever to set it off.

I took that little blog detour to share this with you.

Kim Kardashian really made a name for herself as Paris Hilton’s ex-bff, but she was a high end closet organizer.  She was once known as Queen of Closets, organizing and styling closets.

You don’t have to be a Kim Kardashian, to keep your closet and order and find new looks or new outfits in your very closet.  If you are constantly buying something here and there then it is a good rule of thumb to spring clean your closet and reorganize it.  I use to buy more things as incentive to restyle and reorganize (any excuse to buy right?)  However, it is important to discover and rediscover all the looks you can achieve in your closets while keeping in clean and organized.

We will keep in touch and posted as I go IN…On My CLOSET!!! It’s time people.

It’s Ya Girl, PhillyzJam, and I’d love to hear your comments about your closet and how you organize.  Are you currently in a racks on racks on wreck situation?  Are you lost in your closet right now searching for that one brown shoe that is actually under your bed? LOL – WOO WOO WOO…that was me too!

Rock the “Belle”
