Over Air Brushed and Doing the MOST! Hair Magazines

Okay – Word to my Muva. I love me some hair magazines and am subscribed to Hype Hair as we speak (Sophisticates Black Hair…I’m going to need you to ease on down the decimal for a sister – Too darn high.)

While I will snatch a hair magazine off the shelves to stay with the times and the styles I have a few pet peeves that I am unsure if you guys feel me on, but would love to hear you weigh in.  The first thing that really tears the draws with me is the Airbrushing.  I have a cover with Monica and had to look twice because all the airbrushing had her unrecognizable.  They are so heavy handed with the Airbrushing and the celebrities are halfway unrecognizable.  I could go on and on about this, but will not beat a dead horse.

The second issue that really gets me is the hairstyles that we know and love either by celebrities or just something really fly in the magazine.  They know good and DAG NABBIT DARN WELL a lot of those hairstyles are plain flat out wigs. Why are we given advice on products to use to achieve the style when it’s a wig that did it all?  Before I really got into wigs, I didn’t know any better and these perm boxes, hair care adds would really have me fooled because I thought these ladies’ natural hair looked this way and most of them are wigs are a really good sew in.

As I think about it, I may have to take some styles in the book and offer you wig alternatives or dupes for those hairstyles.

Until the magazines keep it real…I will.

PAST FASHION HAULS COURTESY of WACKBERRY

Before I divorced my Blackberry, I downloaded some pics from the phone and figured I'd share a few more shoe and fashion hauls.  You know you love something when you take a picture of it.

Shoes for Shi. I took a picture of these in the store and didn't buy them. I regretted not doing so and went back and they were GONE!  When they popped back up for sale, I grabbed them. The brand of this shoe is Zigi Soho

This was another shoe I had gotten from Shi which are from the popular Dollhouse brand.  I totally love these shoes. I believe I have worn them a couple of times, but come the summer - they are coming back out!

I could not believe I got these shoes from a local side store for about 7 bucks. They are so cute and shiny. I love it!

This was another shoe that I had gotten from Shi and a scarf that I purchased from...(blank stare). I don't remember.

This shirt my Mom purchased for me the Xmas before last at Bebe. I have not had a place to wear it yet!
These were the earrings she purchased along with the skirt at BeBe

So...You can't keep it any more real than ASH! lol I took the picture and looked and was like OMG! I had to take the shoes back off and on lotion!  The shoes were banging! I got them off South Street in Philly

These shoes are too pretty and they wrap arond the ankle.  Yet another show I did not feel comfortable leaving in the store. They had to come home with me! I just have not worn them anywhere yet.

Nothing worse than sweaty feet! Don't you hate it when they slide down and you have on heels?  Anyway, I thought these were cute little cheap 10.00 prints (Anne Michelle <--one of my favorite brands) that I purchased from Burlington Coat Factory.

DIY: Human Hair Clips. Transform your hair and your wigs

It all started when I got my Jazz unit from My LittleSecrets. I loved the color and everything and thought, I wish I had gotten this unit longer. (pause, marinate on that).

Additionally, I have been freaking OBSESSED with two tone hair and just different hair.  I am such a Libra.  I wear wigs because I want to be able to change up my hair, but I am so into the change that after a while I want to CHANGE THE WIG!  I don’t know about you, but the dye and all the extra stuff I don’t always feel like doing.  I want the results though!

So…NAAAAAANG! (for those of you who know, that was an Eddie Cain Jr. moment. Five Heartbeats).

Human Hair clips.  I swear almost all of Hollywood wears these clips and I love the fact that I can add volume and length to my own hair and to wigs.

Here are the steps:

Your Natural Hair

Decide how thick you’d want the hair.  That will determine how many clips to use.
Start at the nape and part the hair straight across
Hook the clips on to the hair (comb in hair) and SNAP!
Do this straight across until you have secured your first row of hair clips
Part hair again to cover what you’ve done and to cover the track
Depending on how thick you decide you may do every other row (Caution: remember these are hair clips so you do not want it to be too bulky – not cute)
**tip – I used 4 full clips and two small clips on the side** If I wanted thicker hair, 6 clips would have probably been the move

If you want the hair bone straight, it may be a good look to flat iron the clip hair before you put it in your hair.  Remember the pulling can cause the clips to slide down.

WIG: Full Lace

Repeat steps as above and remember to hook it onto the hair! Do not puncture the lace it will damage your wig. NOT A GOOD LOOK.

WIG: Lace Front

Repeat steps above, but the great thing is you can hook the clips onto the tracks that are already in the wig past the lace. This will be very secure.

Check out the pictures of how Jazz went to Jazzy 2.0 with the help of hair clips. I went two tone, long, and fly with no dye and no mess. Just CLIP and SNAP! (is it me or does it remind you of Legally Blonde when she taught the BEND AND SNAP!)

It’s ya girl, Philly!

How to Correct a Badly Colored Wig: Going from BONK to BOMB!!

Are you thinking what I am thinking?  Some curse words mixed in with some major "Whoa-Age"  Call me crazy, but I really looks at this wig and said, I love the Chinese texture and I love the two and three tone concept - The little engine that could in me said, "I think I can correct that color".  I have never corrected a color before in life, but I do remember in high school I totally messed up a hair color.  I turned my hair PEPTO BISMOL PINK! MMHMM Waay before a Nicki Minaj, trying to go blonde...That's another story.  Now that we are back to this unit, I received it believing I could work with it and just remembered what my girl Roxy taught me about hair color and how when you pull too light or too dark, to correct it, you must go to the other side of the color wheel.  She taught me a lot about cool and warm colors and since I wanted a more Ashy blonde look I went to the store and got me some Clairol Nice & Easy.

I chose the Natural Brown color and followed the easy step directions on the box.  It took  no time for me to see the color begin to turn and tone down.  This one was easy and watchable so when it got to the shade I looked to have it (about 10 minutes). I finished the directions and washed the color.

The unit went from the pictures above to the ones below and I was extremely happy.  The silk on this unit is perfect and there is no need for me to dye or do any tea bag methods which is an absolute plus!  Sometimes you can get hit or miss with that. I have noticed though if it's stock it gets a bit white when they try to universalize the silk top.  I would suggest sending a picture of yourself and requesting that the silk top not come in WHITE.  Silk tops have quite a few shades and I believe if you do that the vendor should be able to give you an answer on whether or not that can be accomplished.  I would guess if you request that, there may be some stipulations on the return policy.  So please make sure the conversation is thorough.
I am pleased to announce that this wig has inspired LaceWigsFront to make an exact replica.  YES, my color and all.  The same deal I was extended is being extended to those who would like the unit and it is going on until 3.1.2012. I think this is super cool and very unexpected.  I have never had a wig named after me before and I was merely trying to correct a color to my liking while getting a deal on some good hair!

Creating The Look: Janet Collection Human Hair King Yaky Weaving Quick Weave

The King Yaky video was pretty popular and so I want to ensure that I walk you guys through the look from head to boot (if you saw the video, you’d get what I was saying – for your viewer convenience, I posted it at the bottom).

Here are the steps I took to create the quick weave look for the King Yaky Weave

 The Hair:

  • Decide where or how you want your hair parted
  • Make the part and bush hair back into a very low ponytail (as low as you can get it)
  • Braid down the hair in ponytail and pin it to your head flat as possible
  • Once you have a nice flat surface, apply Morning Glory

**Morning Glory – This is a grow protect substance for your hair that you can get at your local BSS (Beauty Supply Store).**
It is important to ensure you cover every piece of hair with the Morning Glory! If you miss any part your hair is susceptible to getting glue in it and it will be a (insert curse word) to get out!  It’s also damaging.

Once you have covered the hair with Morning Glory, dry the hair
A protective layer should be on the hair that’s hard
You can begin to apply tracks
I measure the tracks against my head to determine the length before cutting
Once I have cut the track, I add glue to the track (I used Salon Pro 30 Sec)
I apply the track to my head and take a blow dryer to hold it over the track and “lock” the glue

You will add these tracks all the way to the top, turning  your pieces sideways along the part
Once I got to the top, I added a closure (Premade and purchased from the store)

You can make a closure from the hair if you have enough left (I would consult YouTube for that)

**If you have applied the Morning Glory correct and dried it properly, once you wash it to get it out the tracks will easily slide right off and out of your head.  No tangles, no residue, no left over glue.**

The Clothes

The hat was purchased from the same BSS store I got the Morning Glory and 30 Sec glue
The shirt was from Livin’ Life. It was a long sleeve thermal from http://www.livinlifeco.com/
The jeans – Honestly I can’t remember, but nothing special
Now – THE BOOTS! Those were the main attraction
I got them from a place here in Atlanta called ShoeLand (there are a few locations around Atlanta) I was addicted to shopping there at one point!

I did some searching to see if I can find this boot by brand in case you guys do not have a ShoeLand and here is what I came up with…NADA L

Brand: HerStyle
Style: Tenna
Type: Boot
Color: Pink

SINCE I COULD NOT FIND IT, I HAD AN IDEA - I WENT TO SHOELAND (SINCE IT IS SEEMINGLY EXCLUSIVE TO ATLANTA) I WENT AND PURCHASED TWO EXTRA PAIR! I FOUND THEM AND WILL BE GIVING THEM IN A CONTEST!!!! STAY TUNED.

Model Model Brook

I truly liked this wig in any style, but have to say I really loved the bangs. I had to SMANG IT - SMASH IT AND BANG! LOL

I love the bangs I cut on it and typically I am pretty scared to cut bangs for the fear of messing them up. I have learned the art of starting at the bottom and working my way up patiently (Patience is totally not a virtue, but I try).
